Historical Background
The Ci-28 passenger coaches originated with the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG) during the interwar period. Part of the family of steel-bodied coaches commonly known as Donnerbüchsen, these vehicles were designed for practical passenger transport on local and regional railway services.
Following the Second World War, some coaches continued in service with railway administrations outside Germany, including the Czechoslovak State Railways (CSD). Third-class coaches provided basic seating accommodation on regional routes and secondary lines, where reliable passenger transport was essential. Their open end platforms were a characteristic feature of this traditional coach design. This ROCO model captures the appearance of a CSD third-class carriage during Era III, making it suitable for historical Central European passenger train formations.
