Which Gaugemaster controller is best for a beginner?

The Gaugemaster Combi is an excellent all-in-one starter controller — plug in and go, powering two track sections independently. For smoother slow-speed control, the Gaugemaster Feedback controller uses back-EMF technology to maintain consistent speed regardless of load.

What is feedback (back-EMF) control and do I need it?

Back-EMF control measures the motor's back-voltage and adjusts power to maintain constant speed regardless of load — so locomotives don't slow on hills or curves. It's particularly useful for fine, slow-speed running and is especially popular for OO gauge modelling.

Does Gaugemaster make DCC systems?

Gaugemaster distributes the Roco Z21 DCC command station in the UK — a sophisticated, app-controlled system that connects to smartphones via Wi-Fi. For basic DCC, Hornby and Bachmann offer more affordable starter DCC controllers.

What scenic materials does Gaugemaster stock?

Gaugemaster's scenic range is comprehensive — scatter materials, static grass, foliage, ballast, water effects, and building materials. They exclusively distribute Noch (market-leading German scenics) and Preiser (figures) in the UK.

What is a SEEP point motor?

A SEEP point motor is a solenoid motor that sits under the baseboard and snaps Peco points from one position to the other when a 12V pulse is applied. They're reliable, compact, and easy to wire — Gaugemaster stocks these alongside compatible switches and controllers.

Gaugemaster FAQs

Which Gaugemaster controller is best for a beginner?: The Gaugemaster Combi (twin-track, with built-in transformer) is an excellent all-in-one starter controller — plug it in and it's ready to run. It powers two separate sections of track independently. For smoother slow-speed control, the Gaugemaster Feedback controller uses back-EMF technology to maintain consistent speed regardless of load.
What is feedback (back-EMF) control and do I need it?: Back-EMF (feedback) control measures the motor's back-voltage and adjusts power to maintain constant speed regardless of load — so a locomotive doesn't slow down going uphill or around curves. It's particularly useful for fine, slow-speed running. Gaugemaster's feedback controllers are especially popular for OO gauge modelling with detailed locomotive models.
Does Gaugemaster make DCC systems?: Gaugemaster distributes the Roco Z21 DCC command station in the UK — a sophisticated, app-controlled system that connects to smartphones and tablets via Wi-Fi, allowing intuitive DCC control.
