Airfix 1/72 British Westland Sea King HC.4 A04056A

The Airfix 1/72 British Westland Sea King HC.4 A04056A model kit allows you to recreate one of the most versatile and iconic helicopters in British military history. Known as the 'Commando', this variant of the Sea King was specifically designed for amphibious warfare and the tactical insertion of ground troops. Originally proposed as a tactical transport for the Egyptian Air Force, the Sea King HC.4 evolved to serve the Royal Navy, with key modifications such as the deletion of side floats, folding rotors, and a folding tail to suit its new role.

Equipped with radar-warning and infrared jamming devices, the Sea King HC.4 was also capable of deploying M130/M147 flares as counter-measures, enhancing its survivability in hostile environments. With the ability to carry up to 28 troops or underslung loads of up to 2.5 tonnes, it became an essential asset in various conflicts, including the Falklands, Balkans, Gulf, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. Its increased range and troop capacity made it ideal for amphibious transport, and it was often deployed for evacuating wounded personnel and refugees, as well as supporting ground advances.

The Sea King HC.4 was due to be retired from UK Forces service in March 2016, marking the end of an era for this legendary aircraft.
