Peco Model Railway Track & Accessories — Buying Guide
Peco is the UK's leading manufacturer of model railway track, producing products that have been the foundation of British layouts for over 75 years. Made in Devon, England, Peco track is renowned for quality, reliability, and the widest range of points, crossings, and accessories available in any gauge. Access Models is a long-established Peco stockist with comprehensive coverage across all major gauges.
Peco Track Ranges by Gauge
OO/HO Gauge (Setrack & Streamline): Peco's OO gauge track is the UK standard. Setrack uses set-radius curves for simple, reliable layouts. Streamline is flexitrack that can be formed to any curve radius, ideal for realistic, flowing layouts. Most serious layouts use a combination of both. Peco also produce comprehensive N gauge, O gauge, OO9, and several other specialist gauges.
Points (Switches/Turnouts)
Peco points are available in Insulfrog (plastic frog — simpler wiring) and Electrofrog (metal frog — better electrical conductivity for DCC and short wheelbase locomotives). For DCC layouts, Electrofrog points give the best results. Browse our Gaugemaster range for compatible point motors and controllers.

Peco FAQs
- What's the difference between Peco Setrack and Streamline?
- Setrack is fixed-radius pre-formed track — easy to use and reliable, ideal for simple oval layouts and beginners. Streamline is flexible track that can be curved to any radius, allowing more realistic, free-flowing layouts. Most layout builders use Setrack for curves and Streamline flexitrack for straights and gradual curves.
- What's the difference between Insulfrog and Electrofrog points?
- Insulfrog points have a plastic (insulated) frog — simpler to wire and no dead spot worries. Electrofrog points have a metal frog for better electrical conductivity across the point, especially beneficial for DCC and short-wheelbase locomotives. Electrofrog requires correct polarity wiring but produces better running.
- Is Peco track compatible with Hornby and Bachmann track?
- Yes — Peco OO gauge track uses the same 16.5mm gauge as Hornby and Bachmann. Track sections can be mixed freely between brands. Peco rail joiners connect all standard OO gauge rail profiles.
- What ballast should I use with Peco track?
- Peco produce their own fine ballast, and Gaugemaster's scenic ballast range is also excellent. Fix with PVA glue diluted 50:50 with water and a drop of washing up liquid. Apply carefully around the sleeper area with an old brush or dropper.
- Does Peco make track for narrow gauge modelling?
- Yes — Peco's OO9 range is designed for narrow gauge modelling, particularly Welsh narrow gauge railways. They also produce N gauge, O gauge, TT, HO, and several specialist gauges including 16mm garden railway track.
