Enamel Model Paints

Enamel model paints have been a mainstay of scale modelling for over 60 years, and for good reason — they provide a beautifully smooth, durable finish that's exceptionally resistant to handling, and they remain the preferred medium for panel line washes, filter effects, and chipping techniques used by experienced modellers worldwide.

Humbrol enamels are the British modeller's companion — their tins of gloss, matt, and satin enamel paint are instantly recognisable and cover every colour needed for British aircraft, armour, and railway subjects. Tamiya enamels are prized for their consistency and are excellent for hand brushing. AK Interactive's enamel range is specifically designed for weathering applications — streaking effects, mud, dust, and fuel stains.

Enamels require solvent-based thinners (white spirit or dedicated model thinners) and have longer drying times than acrylics — typically 6-12 hours for full cure — but this can be an advantage for blending and soft edge camouflage. They can be applied over acrylic base coats once fully cured.
