In 1938\/39 fitted with early shipborne radar type CXZ and updated AA guns. Further\r\nmodifications to radar types CXAM-1, SC-1, SG \u0026amp; SK followed during WWII.\u003co:p\u003e\u003c\/o:p\u003e\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify;line-height:115%;\"\u003e\r\n\t   Following Pearl Harbor TEXAS engaged the enemy in the Invasion of North\r\nAfrica; on D-Day provided cover for the Normandy landings at Omaha Beach;\r\ndeployed to the Pacific and supported the Allied landings at Iwo Jima and\r\nOkinawa in 1944 receiving 5 battle stars.\u003co:p\u003e\u003c\/o:p\u003e\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp style=\"text-align:justify;\"\u003e\r\n\t   Donated\r\nto the State of Texas in April 1948 TEXAS became America’s first battleship\r\nmemorial museum. After 40 years berthed in the Houston Ship Channel near\r\nthe San Jacinto Battleground, TEXAS was moved to drydock on Galveston\r\nIsland in December 1988 for urgent rehabilitation to make the hull watertight.\r\nTEXAS returned to San Jacinto in July 1990 restored to 1945 condition and was\r\nrededicated on 8 September 1990.\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp
